Public Buildings

“Les Petits Ballons” — Jette, Brussels (BE)

Project type
Public Building / School
Location
Jette, Brussels (BE)
A newly constructed municipal school in Jette, Brussels. Three-storey building with a metal façade and high-performance energy-efficient double glazing across approximately 1,440 m².
TETRA coverage — the radio network used by Belgium's emergency services (ASTRID) — was insufficient on the ground and first floors. Under Belgian safety regulations, a building cannot receive its official sign-off without adequate indoor coverage for emergency communications. A solution had to be found and implemented within 6 to 8 weeks, with minimal disruption to an already advanced construction site.
WAVETHRU patented laser treatment was applied to 116 windows across all three floors. The metallic coating — partially responsible for blocking radio frequencies in combination with the metal façade — was selectively removed from the glass, restoring signal transparency without affecting the thermal performance of the glazing. No additional infrastructure. No structural works.
Windows treated: 116
Floors: 3
Treatment duration: 3 days
Before/after measurements were conducted by AGC Glass Europe. Counter-measurements by ASTRID are planned.

+10 dB on the TETRA network (400 MHz) → full compliance with safety norms achieved

Improved 4G and 5G coverage → already compatible with the future TETRA broadband network (800 MHz, MCX services)

Positive results across all mobile operators

WAVETHRU delivers proven performance for today's TETRA network — and is ready for tomorrow's broadband critical communications.
